Terms & Conditions

Please read carefully before booking an appointment with Sweep It Cumbria.

Quotations & Appointments

We do not offer free quotation-only visits — appointments are booked on the basis that we will be attending to carry out work. In the event that we are unable to sweep an appliance due to access issues, an unsuitable installation, or other hazards present, we reserve the right to charge a standard minimum £40 inspection fee per chimney. If, upon arriving at an appointment, we are unable to gain access to a property for any reason, a call-out fee of £40 will be applied for a standard sweep.

Rescheduling & Cancellations

To reschedule or cancel an appointment, please call our office on 01228 564142 by noon the day beforehand. Non-standard missed appointments (for example, longer or out-of-area jobs) may be charged depending on time and distance — please get in touch if you are unsure.

Gas Appliances

Some gas fires require disconnection before a flue serving a gas appliance can be swept. This must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer and arranged by the customer, at their own cost, in advance of our arrival. By law, we cannot remove or refit gas fires ourselves.

Preparing for Your Appointment

  • Please do not use the appliance at all in the 24 hours leading up to your appointment.
  • Remove any ash, debris, or other items from the fire grate so it is clear.
  • We need a working space of around 6ft in front of the fireplace, so please move any coffee tables, furniture, or items away from the hearth beforehand.

Condition of the Chimney & Liability

All services are carried out in good faith. A brief visual inspection is carried out of the appliance and chimney, but due to the concealed nature of chimneys and connected appliances, this should not be relied upon as a guarantee that the appliance and/or chimney are free of faults or issues relating to age, misuse, or poor installation.

Unless told otherwise by the homeowner (or the person allowing entry to the property), we will assume the appliance, flue, terminals, and all component parts are correctly and safely installed and in a fit state to be swept.

If a fault occurs during sweeping, this is not the fault of the sweep — for a chimney and its connected parts to be considered fit for use, they must be in a condition that allows them to be safely cleaned and tested. Where damage is caused during sweeping, this typically indicates an underlying, pre-existing fault that the sweeping process has simply exposed. For example, vermiculite fire bricks are a consumable item that can be fragile and crack in situ; any replacement is at the customer's expense, though we are happy to source and fit replacement parts on request.

Access & Safety During Your Visit

It is your responsibility to keep pets and children supervised throughout our visit — we ask that they remain in a separate room for the duration. We cannot accept liability for loss or injury.

The sweeping process involves multiple trips to and from our vehicle, which means access doors may sometimes be left open during the visit. It is the responsibility of the customer, or their designated representative, to ensure any valuables are secure and kept away from the work area.

Payment

Payment is due at the end of each appointment. Please speak to our office if you have any questions about payment methods.
